March 2019 NWTF Seed Subsidy

March 5, 2019

  NWTF Seed Program

The NWTF Conservation Seed Program helps seed companies distribute outdated commercial seed that can only be used for conservation purposes. The companies dispose of the surplus, treated seeds they can no longer sell by providing it to the NWTF. The NWTF is then responsible for pick up, storage and transportation of the seed to the chapters which provide the seed at a nominal cost to NWTF members for wildlife conservation and land management.

NWTF has partnered with the State of Md to provide surplus seed to NWTF Members. This seed is to be used for wildlife conservation efforts. The partnership provides a maximum of 10- 50 lb bags per member.
Contact Kevin Smith to order Fall seed by March 31, 2019.  The cost is $6.00 per  50 lb bag, with a  10 bag maximum per NWTF member.   The seed available is: winter wheat. Kevin’s email address is:   smithkd2hunt@yahoo.com

TURKEY GOLDรข CHUFA

50 POUND BOX COVERS 1 ACRE

Produces small nut-like tubers that turkeys scratch out of the ground.  Once birds find the tubers in the fall, they keep coming back.  A 50-pound box of seed will cover approximately 1 acre.  Select an open area that receives full sunlight.  Sandy or loamy soils are preferred. Prepare the seedbed by plowing and disking.  Have soil tested to determine exact amounts of lime and fertilizer to add.  If you cannot get the soil tested, use 400 pounds of 10-10-10 or 13-13-13 fertilizer and 1,000 pounds of lime per acre.  Soil pH should be between 6.4 – 7.2.  Broadcast, May through mid July, at a rate of 40-50 pounds per acre and plant at a depth of 2 to 3 inches.

BIOLOGIC NON TYPICAL CLOVER™

8 POUND PACKAGE COVERS 1 ACRE

There’s no denying the powerful attraction of clover for hungry whitetails and wild turkeys!  After years of research we have finally developed one of the easiest to grow, most nutritious, clover blends on the market.  BioLogic’s Non Typical Clover™, is our exclusive clover variety available only from Mossy Oak BioLogic.  This clover planting has been extensively tested and chosen for its proven durability, nutrition, and attraction.  Recent field trials have shown Non Typical Clover™ has a track record of quick stand establishment, aggressive stolon (stem) growth, heavy forage output, and long term stand persistence. Non Typical Clover™ can perform for 3-5 years with proper management including mowing, fertilization according to soil test, and weed control with herbicides.

BIOLOGIC PREMIUM PERENNIAL

9 POUND PACKAGE COVERS 1 ACRE

BLEND THAT LASTS AS LONG AS THE DEER. AND THEN SOME

Trophies don’t grow overnight; it takes seasons of consistent, high quality nutrition to produce those big bucks.  Exactly the thinking behind Premium Perennial.  This is a highly palatable blend of perennial and annual forages, designed to maximize antler growth and weight gain throughout the growing season, year after year.  Extensive research in New Zealand and North America has produced perennials that are extremely palatable and drought-resistant, providing highly digestible protein and minerals during the critical antler and fawn development periods in spring and summer.  The annuals — large-leafed brassicas — are a delicious source of protein in advance of the winter stress period.  Together, these cultivars yield extremely high tonnage of quality food per acre while addressing the herd’s nutritional needs throughout the entire season.  To maintain optimum effectiveness beyond the first year, broadcast BioLogic™ Maximum’s brassica varieties directly onto the existing perennial crop in the early fall portion of the second growing season.  With proper fertilization and care, a Premium Perennial food plot will last four to five years, delivering 30% crude protein, over 80% total digestible nutrients and 100% satisfaction with the size of your bucks.

BIOLOGIC CLOVER PLUS

9 POUND PACKAGE COVERS 1 ACRE

Few plants are more effective at attracting whitetail and turkey than clover.  Use Clover Plus — a perennial blend of our New Zealand Red and White clovers with our extremely successful varieties of chicory — and you turn that attraction into an obsession. Our New Zealand clover has been genetically developed to produce larger, more succulent leaves and thinner stems for higher nutritional value and improved digestibility.  The chicory provides appealing forage during critical months of whitetail growth and development.  Both clover and chicory are extremely hardy and drought-resistant, yielding consistent production through the hot months of summer.  It’s a combination of high nutrition, delicious taste and robust growth that deer can’t resist and nature can’t beat.
